Welcome: A Message from the Chair

The Weill Cornell Department of Psychiatry is one of the largest, most prestigious departments in the country, with a long, distinguished history of providing outstanding leadership in clinical care, training, and research in all areas of psychiatric disorders. Our world-renowned faculty and professional staff treat over 10,000 men, women, and children annually on inpatient units and in a wide variety of specialized outpatient programs and clinics.The Department has two major facilities, Payne Whitney Manhattan, part of the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center on Manhattan's Upper East Side, and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital's Payne Whitney Westchester campus in White Plains, New York, which operate as a single program with a unified faculty and administration. The Department also maintains a close relationship with its immediate neighboring institutions in Manhattan, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and The Rockefeller University.
Over the years, Payne Whitney's skilled faculty and staff have been in the forefront of advancing clinical treatment, furthering the understanding of mental illness, and training future behavioral healthcare specialists. The Department's extensive research initiatives and resources enable it to conduct leading-edge investigations into numerous areas of psychiatric disorders, allowing patients to benefit from the latest findings in clinical care.
NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, created through the merger of Cornell's New York Hospital and Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, benefits from the collaboration of two extraordinary programs, offering the highest level of psychiatric services by experts who are recognized leaders in their respective specialties. NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital's Behavioral Health program is consistently ranked among the nation's best, and is considered a premier program in the New York metropolitan area.
