General Psychiatry Residency Overview
Residency Training in Psychiatry 2009/2010
NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, in partnership with the Weill Cornell Department of Psychiatry, offers a four-year residency training program in adult psychiatry for 48 residents. Primary training sites for medicine and neurology during the internship year include NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Primary training sites for psychiatry include the Payne Whitney Clinic of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Westchester Division (Payne Whitney Westchester) which together make up the largest private university-based clinical program in psychiatry in the United States. The Weill Cornell Department of Psychiatry has close to 200 full-time and more than 350 part-time faculty members, all of whom contribute to the educational mission of the Department. Our residency program in psychiatry is dedicated to training residents with superior clinical skills who are also prepared for a professional life of scholarship, research and teaching. Weill Cornell residents are educated for future leadership in the field of psychiatry.
NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell also offers residency training in psychiatric subspecialties including child/adolescent psychiatry (in collaboration with Columbia University), geriatric psychiatry, psychiatry and the law (forensic psychiatry) (in collaboration with Columbia University), and psychosomatic psychiatry (in collaboration with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
