Clinical Fellowship Program Description

This ACGME-accredited one-year geriatric psychiatry fellowship program trains two physicians per academic year. Fellows must have completed an ACGME-accredited general psychiatry residency program. The objectives of the program are to develop outstanding knowledge, skills and attitudes of Fellows in:

  1. the clinical practice of geriatric psychiatry
  2. the teaching of geriatric psychiatry
  3. the use of social, financial, and legal resources for the elderly
  4. the critical review of clinical geriatric research

We expect graduates of our program to be leaders in the field of geriatric psychiatry. These goals are achieved by intensive training in diverse clinical and research settings, an extensive curriculum of didactic courses, expert faculty supervision, administrative leadership experience in geriatric psychiatry and outstanding teaching opportunities to New York- Presbyterian Hospital junior residents and Weill-Cornell medical students.

Strengths of the program include:
  1. Its 25-plus years' experience offering a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry
  2. The large full-time faculty of board --certified geriatric psychiatrists with clinical expertise as well as accomplishments in teaching and ongoing NIMH -- funded research projects
  3. The teaching contributions of New York -- Presbyterian Hospital's Medicine, Neurology, Neuropsychology and Psychiatric Consultation -- Liaison Services
  4. Its core facilities, which include a large, intensely staffed hospital service (45 acute geriatric psychiatry beds), a geriatric psychiatry specialty research and outpatient clinic and a geriatric nursing home consultation program with the primary mission of training and research
  5. A diverse clinical patient population group based in Westchester County and New York City
  6. Its strong relationships with both county and state-sponsored community facilities and regulatory bodies.
