Laboratory of Human Chronobiology
WHO WE ARE:
The Laboratory of Human Chronobiology (LHC) was established in 1981 under the direction of Eliot Weitzman, MD, at the Westchester Division campus of what was then called the New York Hospital. The laboratory's current director, Scott S. Campbell, PhD, joined the faculty of Weill Cornell Medical College in 1990. Dr. Campbell, and the lab's current Associate Director, Patricia J. Murphy, PhD, who joined the LHC in 1994, have developed a broad-ranging research program, funded primarily through grants from the National Institutes of Health.
The Laboratory of Human Chronobiology conducts research studies of human sleep and biological rhythms. The overarching goals of the laboratory are to increase our understanding of the biology, physiology and behavior, that underlie the regulation of human sleep and circadian rhythms, and to apply this knowledge to achieve optimal sleep and improved waking function.
In addition to its research program, the LHC provides educational and training opportunities for Medical College students, as well as students from local universities and high schools, to learn about sleep and circadian rhythms.
